The Marijuana Anonymous World Services (MA World Services) Webmaster is responsible for maintaining and supporting MA’s websites: marijuana-anonymous.org, mawsconference.org, mawsconvention.org, and anewleafpublications.org. This includes ensuring the sites are secure, online, and functioning properly; managing plugins, custom code, and the content publishing system; and overseeing related internet services. The Webmaster also publishes content, supports other web editors, and helps resolve technical issues as they arise.

The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, works independently, is collaborative, and understands the 12 Step recovery program. The goal is to ensure all web operations and updates are completed efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner.

Job Responsibilities

Time Commitment:

  • Approx. 6–10 hours per week
  • Stays in communication with the Internet Trustee, communicates schedule, and notifies Internet Trustee of any unavailability
  • Ideally, regularly attends Internet Committee Meetings (two (2) one-hour meetings) and Website Redesign Technical Work Meeting (one (1) 1.5 hour meeting)

Website Operations, Support & Development: 

Technical Operations:

  • Ensure websites are online and functional (99.9% uptime standard)
  • Maintain site security, hosting, backups, and domain registration
  • Manage secure certificates, cloud file storage, and monitoring tools

Technical Support:

  • Maintain content publishing system and user access
  • Ideally, four years of experience administering and managing WordPress websites, WordPress platform services, domain management, and customized website development using PHP, JavaScript and JSON.
  • Good understanding of search engine optimization principles
  • Administration of the WordPress platform services, domain management, administration of users, customized PHP, JavaScript, and JSON development for website functionality.
  • Participation and support of MA World Services Internet project/task tools and source code management (i.e. Github, Trello, Slack, etc.)
  • Ensure plugins, custom code, and third-party integrations are working (e.g., forms, payments, e-commerce, accounting tools)
  • Implements new website application plug-ins or custom code programming as needed
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide ongoing maintenance

Development:

  • Implement new features using plugins or custom code
  • Customize presentation (e.g., CSS for the Meeting Finder)
  • Participate in project management and code tracking tools (GitHub, Trello, Slack)

Web Content & Editor Support:

  • Publish and update website content as requested
  • Manage user access for Web Editors (Trustees, ANLP Department, volunteers, etc.)
  • Assist with uploading files and integrating new tools as needed

Google Workspace Admin:

  • Manage Gmail accounts, aliases, distribution lists, Drive access, and Google Groups

Event & Meeting Support:

  • Provide technical support for the Annual MA World Services Conference (e.g., breakout rooms, speaker timing, chat moderation, and confidential voting support)

Other Technical Support:

  • Assist the Internet Committee on new or evolving technical needs
  • Stay in regular communication with the Internet Trustee and committee

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience managing websites, UI/UX experience, servers, hosting, web apps, domains, content systems and internet security. Experience with Yoast on WordPress is a plus.
  • At least two (2) years clean and sober from marijuana, alcohol, and all other mind-altering substances (unless those other substances are taken as prescribed by a healthcare provider).
  • Familiarity with the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts for Service in Marijuana Anonymous (or applicable 12 step program)
  • Reliable internet access
  • Ability to work independently and manage time without supervision

Compensation and Hours:

  • Part-time employee “Special Worker”
  • 40 hours per month
  • $32 per hour
