The MA World Services Tax Accountant supports the Treasurer and Finance Committee of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, providing financial oversight and reporting continuity. A great Tax Accountant will have strong intermediate Excel, Quickbooks, accounting, and bank reconciliation skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to develop relationships with others, and to work as a team to produce accurate financials and troubleshoot problems.
Qualifications
- Ongoing access to a home office or similar facilities;
- Ability to operate efficiently without on-site supervision;
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing and on the phone;
- Familiarity with the software systems employed by MA World Services including QuickBooks, Excel, and Google Workspace;
- Ongoing access to an Internet-connected PC or Mac capable of supporting printers, and installing and running up-to-date web browsers;
- A flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of volunteers;
- A four-year degree in accounting or a related field; Enrolled Agent or CPA a plus;
- A minimum of three years of relevant work experience;
- Working knowledge of US and California nonprofit and sales tax regulations and compliance a plus.
Responsibilities
- Interacts with and supports the Treasurer and President Trustees, and the Assistant Accountant;
- Attend the monthly Finance Committee meetings
- Reviews and troubleshoots corporate financial statements;
- Uses forensic accounting skills to resolve problems;
- Assists in the preparation and review of budgets;
- Prepares annual combined corporate financial statements.
- Prepares and files all nonprofit annual tax returns;
- Supports Treasurer Trustee on filing and resolving issues with other tax returns (sales tax, payroll, raffle, etc.)
- Works with Treasurer Liaison to resolve issues with District reporting.
- Takes the lead on the development of accounting guidelines;
- Maintains a strong commitment to members and volunteers at all levels
