Webmaster for Marijuana Anonymous World Services

The MA World Services Webmaster is responsible for maintaining and supporting MA’s websites: marijuana-anonymous.org, anewleafpublications.org, mawsconference.org, and as needed, mawsconvention.org. This includes ensuring our WordPress sites are secure, online, and functioning properly; managing plugins, custom code and overseeing related internet services. The Webmaster also publishes content, supports other stakeholders, and helps resolve technical issues as they arise.

The ideal candidate has strong communication and technical skills, works independently, is collaborative, and understands the 12-Step recovery program. The objective of this role is to ensure all web operations and updates are completed efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner. The Webmaster will work closely in collaboration with other stakeholders, the MA Website Designer, and Creative Designer Special Workers.

Job Responsibilities

Website Operations and Support

  • Responsible for the operation and upkeep of the following MA websites: marijuana-anonymous.orgmawsconference.orgmawsconvention.organewleafpublications.org
  • Administration of the WordPress platform services, domain management, administration of users, customized PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, and JSON development for website functionality
  • Participation and support of MA World Services Internet project/task tools and source code management (e.g. Google Workspace Administrator, Kinsta, GitHub, Trello, Donorbox)
  • Ensure plugins, custom code, and third-party integrations are working (e.g., forms, payments, e-commerce, accounting tools)
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide ongoing maintenance ensuring websites are online and functional (99.9% uptime standard)
  • Maintain site security, user access, hosting, backups, domain registration, secure certificates, file storage, and monitoring tools
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the MA Meeting Finder (TSML UI)

Development

  • Implement new features using plugins or custom code
  • Customize presentation (e.g., CSS for the Meeting Finder)
  • Publish and update website content as requested
  • Support the integration of the MA App (Mobile Apps using WordPress backend interface and API)

Other Technical Support

  • Maintain content publishing system and user access
  • Ideally, four years of experience administering and managing WordPress websites, WordPress platform services, domain management, and customized website development using PHP, JavaScript and JSON.
  • Good understanding of search engine optimization principles
  • Administration of the WordPress platform services, domain management, administration of users, customized PHP, JavaScript, and JSON development for website functionality.
  • Participation and support of MA World Services Internet project/task tools and source code management (i.e. Github, Trello, Slack, etc.)
  • Ensure plugins, custom code, and third-party integrations are working (e.g., forms, payments, e-commerce, accounting tools)
  • Implements new website application plug-ins or custom code programming as needed
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide ongoing maintenance

Qualifications

  • Experience administering and managing WordPress websites, WordPress platform services, domain management, and customized website development using HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and JSON
  • UI/UX experience, servers, hosting, web apps, domains, content systems and internet security
  • Understanding of search engine optimization principles (e.g. Yoast, or similar SEO plugin for WordPress)
  • Ability to work independently and manage time without on-site supervision
  • At least two (2) years clean and sober from marijuana, alcohol, and all other mind-altering substances (unless those other substances are taken as prescribed by a healthcare provider).
  • Familiarity with the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts for Service in Marijuana Anonymous (or applicable 12-Step program)
  • Eligibility to work in the United States

Time Commitment

  • Approx. 20 hours per month
  • Attends Internet Committee Meetings (one (1) one-hour meetings) and Website Redesign Meetings (two (2) 1.5 hour meetings) per month.
    • Internet Committee meeting 4th Tuesday at 6-7pm PT / 9-10pm ET (could change if needed based upon availability)
    • Website Redesign Subcommittee meeting (1st and 3rd Mondays at 5:30-7 pm PT / 8:30-10pm ET)
  • Stays in communication with the Creative Designer to communicate schedule and notifies them of any unavailability

Compensation

  • Part-time, remote, independent contractor “Special Worker”
  • $32 per hour based on experience
