Website Designer for Marijuana Anonymous World Services

The MA World Services Website Designer is responsible for increasing engagement and accessibility on WordPress websites that support the growth of the MA fellowship by producing and creatively redeveloping the overall design of its two main domains. This includes improving usability, maintaining consistency, and streamlining information shared across MA’s websites: marijuana-anonymous.org and anewleafpublications.org.

The ideal candidate will bring strong design expertise, a solid understanding of content management best practices, and understanding of the 12-Step recovery program. The objective of this role is to help MA World Services support implementing progressive and ongoing changes to the look and feel of the two main websites. The Website Designer will work closely in collaboration with other stakeholders, the MA Webmaster, and Creative Designer Special Workers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the production, support, and redesign of the Marijuana Anonymous website marijuana-anonymous.org
  • Complete additional projects for A New Leaf Publications website: anewleafpublications.org and as needed MA’s other sites: mawsconference.org and mawsconvention.org
  • Prioritize accessibility to meet and exceed legal compliance standards, such as Section 508, WCAG, and the ADA that ensures maximum access for visitors with varying needs and abilities
  • Develop a design and site map navigation for the website that supports the user’s journey of various audiences and implementation of a new mega menu
  • Design visual imagery by upholding content/brand standards and following best practice guidelines set by MA and the 12 Traditions

Qualifications

  • UI/UX design experience is a plus (wireframing, prototyping, user flows, usability testing) 
  • Proficient understanding of search engine optimization, modern web design principles, including responsive design and accessibility standards
  • Professional experience designing websites, with a portfolio showcasing a range of projects
  • Ability to effectively use the software technologies employed by MA World Services (e.g., WordPress, Yoast, Canva, Trello, Google Workspace)
  • Experience in front-end development web programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Strong communicate, collaborate, problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage time without on-site supervision
  • At least two (2) years clean and sober from marijuana, alcohol, and all other mind-altering substances (unless those other substances are taken as prescribed by a healthcare provider)

Time Commitment

  • Approx. 20 hours per month
  • Attends the Website Redesign Subcommittee meeting (1st and 3rd Mondays at 5:30-7 pm PT / 8:30-10pm ET)
  • Stays in communication with the Creative Designer to communicate schedule and notifies them of any unavailability

Compensation

  • Part-time, remote, independent contractor “Special Worker”
  • $32 per hour based on experience
